The Energy Cluster’s first activity was the setting up of a joint venture with the former French energy company Elf. The joint venture catered for the storage, bottling and distribution of liquid petroleum gas (LPG) in Mauritius. Following the merger if Elf with Total, CJ became a shareholder of Total Mauritius. The cluster started to diversify regionally with the setting up of a unit in Mayotte.
