Chairman's Message
This site offers key information on our history, business activities, management philosophy and the relevant business leaders. Inspired by the entrepreneurial drive of its founders, Currimjee Jeewanjee & Co Ltd. (CJ) has grown from commodity trading in 1890 to becoming an important player in various sectors of the local and regional economy. CJ is today recognised as one of the leading and most innovative business organisations in the country.

We have never hesitated to explore uncharted territory or to be pioneers in new ventures. And, because of our passion for adding value and making a difference, we are never satisfied with yesterday's achievements - we constantly seek growth, fulfilment and higher levels of excellence. That is why we have often been trail blazers.

The business activities of CJ are organised into five main clusters: Telecommunication, Media & IT, Real Estate, Hospitality & Tourism, Commerce & Financial Services, and Energy. This cluster-based organisation enables us to reconcile a unified vision with decentralised management, operational autonomy and growth while remaining close to particular customers and markets. It also ensures that our growth is focused and, wherever possible, builds on the core competencies and strengths of the various clusters.

The CJ corporate office oversees and reviews the performance of the respective businesses, while the service units – Human Resources, Quality, Finance and Internal Audit – offer management and professional support to ensure that existing business units are effectively exposed to best practices and guided by the core values of the firm, as CJ grows inexorably from a family-owned enterprise into a highly sophisticated business organisation. The corporate office also pilots new projects and business developments, while ensuring that relevant management systems and structures are in place for effective executive action.

Central to our activities are our values and our aspiration to provide a meaningful, satisfying, and fulfilling place to work for all our employees. We continuously implement this objective through our Organisation Effectiveness and Quality framework. Most of the companies in the Group are either ISO-certified or actively engaged in the registration process.

All units also participate in the internal Currimjee Quality Award (CQA) involving yearly self-assessment as well as appraisal by trained teams of external evaluators against set criteria. CQA also provides incentives for the various units to strive towards business excellence and the implementation of best practices.

We are convinced that successful organisations are built on strong leadership, consistency of purpose, innovation, professionalism, customer focus and result orientation. More importantly, we have learnt over the years to pay increasing attention to how people are treated in our companies, first of all by ensuring that our management reflects the values of openness, transparency and fairness; secondly, that we have enlightened HR systems and practices that deliver these values; and, finally, that our Group actively demonstrates its commitment to its staff’s career development, training and personal fulfilment at all levels.
