The first diversification drive was initiated in 1997 when Currimjee Jeewanjee and other partners set up the Société Mayoraise de Gaz (SOMAGAZ) in Mayotte. This company initially imported LPG bottled in Mauritius for distribution in Mayotte. Subsequently in 2008, SOMAGAZ set up a fully-owned subsidiary, Sigma, for the bulk storage and bottling of LPG in Mayotte.
