This is why the International Day Against Drug Abuse, marked on 26 June, is more than a date on the calendar. For the past six years, the Currimjee Foundation has partnered with the NGO DRIP on the NoToDrug programme, led by Isabelle and Danny Philippe, who have dedicated years to combating addiction in Mauritius.
Each year, the programme reaches around 600 children aged 8 to 16 - a critical stage when curiosity, peer pressure and limited guidance can increase vulnerability. By focusing on prevention, the initiative helps build resilience before experimentation begins and empowers young people to become advocates for healthier choices.
The programme is delivered in communities where it is needed most, including Cité Anoska, Cité Mangalkhan, Sainte Croix, Cité Bethléem, Petite Rivière Noire, Case Noyale and Bambous Virieux. Its community-based approach helps break taboos, reduce stigma and strengthen support for families. Six years of partnership. Hundreds of children reached each year. One shared conviction: preventing drug abuse requires sustained community engagement, not one-off actions.
The Currimjee Foundation remains committed to building a safer, healthier and more resilient Mauritius for future generations.
